These clients purchased a 557 s.f. downtown condo to serve as their "pied-a-terre" on weekends. In the living area they wanted to be able to seat four people comfortably, watch t.v., and accommodate informal dining for two. The bedroom presented a unique challenge since it was open to the foyer.
The Solution
Living Space: The addition of a custom island would function as kitchen work surface, storage, dining table and media cabinet. With the island fixed in position, t.v. wires would run under the countertop to a west wall power/cable connection.
When entertaining, the two guest chairs can be placed opposite the sofa to create a conversation area. Floating shelves over the sofa allow for books and objets d´art. A large painting should be placed on the west wall over the island.
Bedroom Plan: The idea here is to create an enclosed "foyer" with a series of sliding frosted glass panels that screen the bed from view upon entering the condo. The center panel would be stationary, while the side panels slide in front and behind. For consistency the closet doors would be replaced with the same type of panel.
A bench, artwork and area carpet finish the space. (See plan at right)
