These clients requested new furnishings, and to upgrade their lighting and powder room. They favoured an elegant traditional style with a warm, airy, tropical feel. It was important to maximize seating for entertaining, incorporate a grand piano and make it kid and pet-friendly!

Design Features

An existing wool area carpet provided inspiration for the colour scheme - black, coral, green and gold/beige – the perfect tropical palette! Traditional colonial furnishings in dark wood fit the bill for the style. The tropical theme was introduced through wallpaper, art and accessories so the décor could be easily changed later. Add some finishing details and voila!

Instant drama was created in the foyer with a black wool, stair runner and area rug. A glass-top, copper “flamingo” table sets the theme. Crema marfil marble adds durability to surfaces and a touch of luxe.

Recessed lights and wall sconces enliven the living room. A two-way fireplace was enhanced with a slim, custom mantle and marble surround. Silk plaid draperies and comfy high-back “concert seating” add colour.

The dark wood furniture in the dining room provides formality and helps to balance the grand piano in the living room opposite. With extensions, the table can seat 10 people comfortably.

The family room had to perform double-duty for entertaining and daily use, so washable fabric and slip covers were used. Shutters, a fan-light and mostly neutral colour palette promotes a relaxed, tropical feeling.

In the powder room the textured wallpaper features a scroll design made of sand particles. The toilet was replaced with a sleek one-piece model and recessed lighting was added. The pedestal sink was replaced with a custom cabinet (for storage), and topped with crema marfil marble and undermount sink. Wall to wall mirror helps expand the space.
