Colour forecasters predict a shift away from GRAY and towards WARMER NEUTRALS. It would seem that at least two paint companies agree.
Sherwin Williams recently announced their colour of the year: “Poised Taupe” SW-6039. “This timeless neutral is modern, classic and a beautiful balance of warm and cool.”
Their announcement went on to say, “The 2016 industry shows revealed a surprising transition from grey to taupe. Both contract and consumer color / products have been focused on grey as THE key neutral – although grey is still important, we have seen a significant shift in materials and finish color to warmer, taupe-ier expressions of neutral.” http://www.sherwin-williams.com/
PPG Pittsburgh Paints have announced “Violet Verbena” as their 2017 Colour of the Year. “Violet Verbena is a gray-purple hue that idealizes the popular bohemian, “gypset” lifestyle. This nuanced update on a classic shade adds depth, luxury and pampering to every space, making it the perfect backdrop for consumers looking to blend the masculine, the feminine, the mystic and the modern.
Violet Verbena adapts to surrounding environments and complements a variety of design aesthetics, from playful rooms to tranquil spaces.” (http://www.ppgpittsburghpaints.com/color/color-of-the-year)
Interestingly, both of these 2017 colours are gray-based and have been warmed up with various amounts of red pigment. What better way to transition away from gray!
